FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions about Medical Billing & Payment Collection

A few of the questions we’re often asked about how our Medical Billing & Payment Collection service works.

Do you manage both self-pay and insured patient billing?

Yes. We can manage billing across self-pay patients, private medical insurers and other agreed payers, working with the funding arrangements and billing processes used within your practice. This can include raising and submitting invoices, monitoring payments, managing insurer queries and identifying patient-responsible balances such as excesses and shortfalls.

How will I know what has been paid and what is still outstanding?

You will receive a monthly billing and payment report providing a clear overview of payments received and balances that remain outstanding.

Alongside this, billing and payments are monitored on an ongoing basis so that unpaid invoices, queries and other issues can be identified and followed up rather than simply being discovered at the end of the month.

What happens when an invoice remains unpaid?

Outstanding invoices are followed up as part of the agreed credit control process. Where an invoice remains unpaid or becomes aged debt, this will be escalated to you, together with the relevant information, so that any further action can be agreed.

Patient balances are approached professionally and sensitively, recognising that payment collection forms part of the wider patient experience.

How do you make sure clinical activity doesn’t get missed?

Where the appropriate information and systems are available, we can help track clinical activity through to invoicing and payment. This provides greater visibility of activity that may not yet have been billed, invoices awaiting payment and items where further investigation or follow-up is required.

The aim is to provide a clearer picture of the whole journey from activity performed to payment received, rather than looking at invoicing in isolation.
