FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Questions about Bookkeeping & Reporting
A few of the questions we’re often asked about how our Bookkeeping & Reporting service works.
How often will my bookkeeping be updated?
The frequency will be agreed according to the activity and requirements of your practice. Rather than leaving bookkeeping until year end, records are maintained regularly throughout the year so that your financial information remains organised and up to date.
What financial reports will I receive?
You will receive financial reporting every month, typically including a Profit & Loss report and Balance Sheet, giving you regular visibility of the financial position and performance of your practice.
The Profit & Loss report shows the income your practice has generated and the expenses it has incurred over the reporting period, helping you understand how the business is performing and whether it is operating at a profit or loss.
The Balance Sheet provides a snapshot of the financial position of the business at a particular point in time, showing what the business owns, what it owes and the resulting value held within the business.
Where we are supporting you with Making Tax Digital (MTD), your bookkeeping records will also be reviewed and prepared quarterly to support the required MTD reporting.
At the end of the financial year, your bookkeeping will be brought together and prepared annually, ready for you or your appointed accountant to complete the relevant annual accounts and tax returns.
Can you work with my accountant?
Yes. Our bookkeeping service is designed to work alongside your appointed accountant. We can provide them with accurate bookkeeping records, reports and supporting information and liaise with them where queries arise.
We provide bookkeeping and financial administration rather than accountancy or tax advice, so your accountant remains responsible for your year-end accounts, tax returns and any tax advice you require.
What if my bookkeeping is already behind?
That’s not a problem. Where historic bookkeeping needs to be brought up to date, we can review the existing records, identify what needs attention and agree a plan to bring the bookkeeping up to date.
This work can be completed before, or where appropriate alongside, the commencement of your ongoing bookkeeping service.
