I’ve worked in healthcare since 2004 and in private healthcare since 2010, with experience spanning practice management, administration, medical billing and the financial operations behind private practice.
The Private Practice Specialist brings that experience together to provide practical, hands-on support to healthcare professionals, helping practices become more organised, efficient and easier to manage.

A missed payment may start with billing. A patient query may highlight a problem with a process. An overbooked clinic may actually be a problem with the way the diary is structured. We look beyond the individual task to understand what is happening across the practice and why.

Our role isn’t simply to complete the work we’re given. We keep an eye on what is happening across the areas we support, identifying gaps, recurring problems and things that don’t look right so they can be addressed rather than becoming part of the way the practice operates.

The Private Practice Specialist was created from first-hand experience of managing the day-to-day realities of private practice.
Behind every consultation is a much wider operation. Patient enquiries need responding to, appointments need coordinating, correspondence needs managing, invoices need raising, payments need following up and financial records need maintaining.
Having worked across these different areas, the aim was to provide healthcare professionals with support that understands not only the individual processes, but how they affect the running of the practice as a whole.
That experience continues to shape how The Private Practice Specialist works today: practical support, clear responsibility and a focus on keeping the practice organised, visible and manageable.

Bookkeeping developed from the needs of a practice
When a consultant I was supporting moved from sole trader to limited company, their financial administration needed to evolve too. As their Practice Manager, I was already managing billing, payments and reconciliation, and bookkeeping became a natural extension of that work.

Two years of Saturday learning
I recognised that bookkeeping required knowledge beyond understanding the practice or knowing how to use accounting software. For around two years, I spent Saturdays attending live online bookkeeping classes, developing my knowledge alongside the practical experience I was gaining.

Bookkeeping & Reporting today
What began as a requirement for one consultant became an additional area of expertise within my role. Today, Bookkeeping & Reporting is a standard service offered by The Private Practice Specialist, either independently or alongside wider practice management and billing support.
